Send me your consciousness – your connectome

I have written already several times about projects related to brain studies:
— Brain-computer interface becomes reality
— Artificial Intelligence is here to stay and prosper
— Download new skill, please
— I see what you see

In my previous message, I also surmised that in our lifetime, humanity will get to the basics of human consciousness and “Then the model used by AI will be comparable in complexity and its depth with whatever happens in our brains.

Today I would like to push it even further. Eventually, brains will be measured in minute details and digitized. The connections in your brains (connectome) will become reproducible. It well may be that the complexity of the connectome facilitates the emergence of consciousness (if you follow that link, you will find how differently different scientists define what that is). The connectome can be reconstructed in a computer and Voila! the robot becomes as conscious as you are.

It would be funny (if not outright scary) to see how that robot behaves exactly as you would behave in response to the same stimuli. The feeling will be probably similar to what one feels while observing own child.

One interesting implication is that the digitized connectome can be sent with a speed of light to any place. That place—another planet, for example—must have the receiver and a computer to house the sent consciousness. Our clones will explore other planets, while we continue sitting in our old comfortable chairs on Earth.

Another branch of current brain research attempts to upload the digitized brain’s content to another brain. With this capability in place, the receiver can be just another brain (on another planet). And maybe not necessarily a human brain, but whatever is able to accept and house the sent connectome.

And here is a thought. Could it be that this procedure was done already, and the digitized connectome or something like that was sent (just broadcasted) and received by our animal ancestors in Africa’s savanna millions of years ago?
